Good Afternoon: Ms. Kienzynski:

I think bringing a braille display can be very useful and it is a great idea, especially when your hearing is or may not be reliable. There is a mobile app you can use to create communication cards. It is primarily for the deaf community, but DeafBlind individuals can also use it. It is Sorenson Buzz Cards and while I do not use it regularly, I know several people who do who have given it great reviews. You can download it at:

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/sorenson-buzzcards/id380582593

I do not know about amplifiers, but I have a device known as a Roger Select, which I can give to individuals to wear around their neck if I need their speech to be broadcast directly into my hearing aids. Not having a lot of experience with it, however, I cannot speak to its efficacy, but it has worked well for many.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Rocky Hart

Hi Ms. Misty D. Kienzynski

I just looked on independent, living aids. And they do have personal amplifiers. I found one. The name of it is called turbo ear The cost is $12.95.

If you need help, you can call this number. It’s too independent living aids. 800.-537 – 2118

And when someone answers the phone you just give them your name and tell them you are looking for a personal amplifier and ask them if they have the turbo ear for $12.95. I was looking at the rest of them, and this one is the cheapest one from independent living aids.

Love always

The cheapest sound amplifying device I use is the apple airpods. I use the ambient mode and it makes sounds right next to you clearer. It is no hearing aid but, if you have to speak to some right next to you, it usually works depending on what is going on around you. Braille display, cheapest is the orbit if you think 500 plus is cheap! If your worried about pressure, I always take Benadryl 30 minutes before I fly, does not help when you flight keeps getting delayed woe. Also, if you can, get some chewing gum too. Pressured always affects me too.

Greetings.

I am a medium-low partial with mild hearing loss who is soon looking to travel solo abroad.

>From what I can tell, I am currently not at a stage to need hearing aids, though I do struggle a bit in louder environments. I also have pre-existing ear pressure issues and I am worried about how flying will affect my ability to hear due to differences in cabin pressure while ascending/flying/landing.

First, these ear pressure issues: Understanding that you guys are not doctors, how do you think flying could affect me?

Secondly, I am planning to take a cheaper Braille display should I need it to communicate.

Third, I am looking for, I think you call it, a personal sound amplifier that I can take with me on my trip, specifically for speech comprehension. I am looking for an accessible and cheap one. Do any of you have any recommendations? If so, could yu please provide direct links to them?

Finally, do you guys have any other recommendations for me, given my situation on this trip?

Thanks.
