[NFB-DB] Bluetooth Headphones

Hi All,

I also have my hearing aids bluetoothed to my phone. I have a device that connects to my TV as well, that I have connected via bluetooth to the hearing aids.

With the TV connection, I can have the volume completely down on the TV and will still hear the sound through my hearing aids. Without the connecter, the TV has to be uncomfortably loud for those who are not hearing impaired.

I absolutely love these features. The only thing that is really a pain is the fact that when I am listening to the phone or the TV, that is pretty much all I am hearing. I can’t really understand conversations or other things going on around me. So, it makes it kind of bitter/sweet when trying to interact with someone while watching a movie.

I also have my hearing aids connected to my computer to access JAWS, but I don’t like that as well and generally opt for headphones instead. The reason for this is that there is some sort of break in the connection when JAWS pauses for even a few seconds. So, when I start moving again—typing, reading, whatever—it takes a few seconds for the devices to reconnect. This causes me to mis the first few characters or words of a given line or sentence, if that makes sense. I’m not sure why this kind of interference doesn’t occur while on the phone or watching TV, but there isn’t any annoying break in those connections.

My hearing aids are the R-Phonak.

Hi All,

I just thought I’d chime in on my Bluetooth experience. My hearing aids are Bluetooth capable, and I do have them connected to two different devices at once. One device is my phone and the other device is my wireless mic. My phone has the override which is sometimes irritating as I use my wireless mic plugged into my computer. And as I attend numerous Zoom meetings on my computer, it’s a pain

Sometimes that something from my phone breaks in. I’ve never used headphones either Bluetooth or otherwise with my current pair of hearing aids.

Warmly,

Doula

As I understand it, while you can’t get audio from two devices at once, you can, in fact, switch from one device to the other quickly on one headphone. If you’re still interested in the one I found, let me know and I’ll post the link here.

My understanding, as Scott had suggested, is that Bluetooth headphones can only be used with one device at a time. If, however, any of you know of a set of Bluetooth headphones that can work with multiple devices at once, I would love to hear about them. I will be working with DeafBlind participants at the Helen Keller National Center in the are of Adaptive Technology this summer, so any information you can provide would be great as I would be in a better position to support them.

Thank you.

Misty,

Thanks for asking the question. I would also be interested in the responses. I love to use headphones and cannot use ear buds due to the hearing aid.

One more question. What if your hearing aid is already paired to your phone can you still use a Bluetooth headphone? I thought only one device can be paired at a time.

Thanks

Delcenia

Subject: [NFB-DB] Bluetooth Headphones

Greetings.

I am currently looking for a pair of bluetooth headphones (NOT earbuds, as I have never been able to fit any I’ve tried into my ears and they block out critical environmental sounds!) that have 5.0 bluetooth and are quickly and easily able to switch between paired audio sources (preferably 3 of them: my iPhone, the Envision glasses and my PC). I also need a quality microphone on them or, if I can’t get that, no mic at all so that recording goes to my iPhone mic. I also need extremely long battery life.

I have great difficulty with any headphone where it surrounds the ear as, when I walk, I feel ear pressure and hear thumping in the headphones. I would need something that rests completely on top of the ear or near or behind the ear.

I also need something that allows me to hear what is around me.

I have thought about getting bone-conducting headphones, but I have a mild hearing loss and I have heard that these have a very low volume. (The mild hearing loss is why I like to use headphones when listening to any audio source.

Any help finding that perfect bluetooth headphone that matches my above specifications would be much appreciated.
