<div>Thank you, Denise, for the great suggestion.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Good for Amanda! I completed the uncontracted braille reading course at Hadley, and I am now learning contracted braille. My teacher is wonderfully patient and compassionate. She really invests her SELF into my learning. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>I was not required to learn braille in school either. My vision loss has been progressive, and I began trying to learn braille after high school. I made at least three attempts over the years, each time investing a year or more studying, and then forgetting what I'd learned because I didn't keep it up. I have always been an avid and consummate reader. I used my eyes as long as they allowed me to. Now I can no longer read with my eyes, and I am so very grateful for Hadley School.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>What is different about my teacher at Hadley is that she is forcing me to read faster. Without proper technique, braille reading can be slow and tedious. My Hadley teacher has emphasized good technique from the very beginning. At first I did not understand the importance of changing the way I held and moved my fingers and arms, holding my wrists straight, etc. Now that my braille speed is more rapid than my sight reading ever was, I am thrilled to read again. I can't wait to complete the contracted braille course!</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Good luck to Amanda, and God bless you for helping her and keeping us informed.</div>
