Hi Marsha,
I know that I learned with my Phonak FM System that has blue tooth
connectivity there is a prioritization. If your cell phone rings
while in class and your using the "Zoom" it will switch you from the
class to your cell phone call. I found it annoying when I would type
on my QWERTY Pacmate in class that I had plugged into the FM system
it would again switch from the class to the Pacmate. I do not know
how much mine system cost because DORS paid for it but they now have
a newer version, so that they are constantly updating their designs
and their capabilities, at least in some areas.
3G or 4G. They work exactly the same as the old FM systems, but
the reciever part are built into the hearing itself. the nice
thing about the bluetooth systems, is that any other device that
uses bluetooth can be paired with your hearing aids, and then
that sound will go directly into the hearing aids. The fm system
and the newer bluetooth and 3g or 4g systems are for the over
the ear aids. As far as cost, I am not sure. the 3g and or 4g is
the same sort of technology that cell phones use, not sure if
they will interfer with each other.

Hi Sheila,
An FM system is associated with hearing aids and uses a
"directional microphone" that another person can wear while
speaking or placed in the center of a conference table. It
amplifies the sounds and sends them directly into your hearing
aids via a receiver. I find it very helpful when walking with
someone they can wear it and give me directions and I can hear
them whether they are beside me or behind me because the FM
system has a range of about 100 feet. I have sometimes even
left me classroom to go to the bathroom and the teacher is
wearing the microphone and depending on the proximity of the
restroom to the classroom. I can still hear the class
discussion in the restroom, even if I can not comment!
Best,
