The OSD will give me a reader and an assistant in class but, not outside of class! Work in the lab is considered outside of class! But in class, I cant ask anyone about the signs verbally, I have to guess from them signing to me! The only voice is someone reading the board like telling me the assignments and what is due etc. But not, I go to school, and than sign it after saying that is what their doing! I usually gathered this information from one of my class mates sending me the notes! The next day but, I am really lost in the class! I don't even know any of the classjmates because their is no talking in the class and I cant see them and have never heard their voice! I know this is tabu to speak in deaf culture but, how can I learn when I don't live in the deaf culture! I think ASL one should not be so ridget, perhaps ASL 2 and 3, I can see doing this but not in level 1! But, DARS said they won't provide a reader because I already have a degree from a university! They taking their first test on monday but I only know the letters as I did not have a reader for the lab! IT is going to fast for me because, I cant just ask someone what their signing! I asked someone about the letters on this list, and now I know them! But I cant carry a conversation in ASL, like everyone else! I guess you should according to the teacher in the class. I think others have given you good solutions to the lab situation, althought annoying, I hope you can stick with the class. I am confused though. I am assuming that you know the alphabet? And that when your in class you are learning the signs tacutally? I mean by tactually is by your hands on top of their hands. Interpertors can go very fast but if they slow down, break down the signs so you know the movement, you can pick it up.
