Most of us have seen variations on the definition, including medical models and so forth. The one that appears below is the most humane and respectful definition I have ever read. AADB definition of DeafBlind person:<br>

“Deaf-blind, or deafblind, is a combination of hearing and vision loss of any varying degrees that affects a person’s ability to communicate, get environmental information, participate in the community, obtain and keep a job, and maintain independence.”<br>

<br>
A definition of a Deaf-Blind Community as quoted by John Lee Clark:<br>
<br>
“The American DeafBlind community is a network of people who are both deaf and blind to varying degrees. They may participate in local DeafBlind communities and associations or other social venues open to DeafBlind people from various locations, such as camps, retreats, and conferences. A virtual or “long-distance” community space also exists, which was first formed in the nineteenth century via correspondence and has continued to this day in the form of social publications, e-mail listservs, and the Internet. For communication, they use various methods and languages, including American Sign Language and English-syntax-based variants (tactile, visual), English (spoken, fingerspelled, standard print, large print, and Braille), specialized codes (such as Print on Palm, codes written on hands or backs, tactile alphabets, synthesizers) and more. They also often utilize Independent Living Skills; Orientation and Mobility skills, with the use of long white canes, guide dogs, and
public transportation; access services such as Support Service Providers; and many services that hearing blind or sighted Deaf people also use, such as transcription services and ASL interpreting services.”<br>

Lastly Rod Macdonald offer a good definition of a Deaf-Blind Community. It may need a few minor tweaking though.<br>

"The Deaf-Blind Community (of the United States) refers to a group of individuals experiencing a coexistent, significant loss of vision and hearing; who self-identify as having this dual loss; and who feel some level of togetherness with others in the same circumstances. In a broader sense, this community also includes family members, friends and service providers who serve in a support capacity within this community."<br>

I'd rather see less volume going into this list if you are just trying to collect sample of definitions for the word deafblind or deaf-blind or DeafBlind. Really, this has since become a sensitive issue as the spelling is very important to consider. I might post an explanation from someone who has expertise on Deafblind History.<br>
