<p>good evening Scott I've been asked just how much is this service
compared to the normal price if there is one? The questions have
come to me from people here in California. Of course any
information you give me on this I will also share with our state
affiliate president in Idaho who was looking for what to do with
her state convention next March. Because yes it is beginning to
look like we will go into 20,021. And in fact the latest comment
is they won't even okay the trials meeting the widespread use of
this potential you're in a trial there are three of them until
probably sometime late in November and the trials apparently must
last at least six months. Which means the trials would finish
sometime during next spring and maybe might get final approval say
in May or June that's cut that awful close to convention back so
close that I think many organizations like us will yes be forced
to have a second virtual convention.</p>

<p>Just for the record I started out using the service on OS X
Catalina. I would love to get the opportunity to tested with the
current beta of Big Sur. However I suspect that Big Sur's freebies
is imminent. I say there's a good chance that it may possibly be
declared released at next Tuesday's phone event. Stay tuned.</p>

<p>I also used it quite extensively in Microsoft Windows in fact I'd
say about 85% of the release was spent in Windows. About my only
issue was how slow the caption text arrived. I hope this helps?</p>

I, too, wish this conversation could have happened prior to
convention. I reached out to the NFB prior to it to offer my
assistance in testing, and I think a couple of other division members
did the same, but as far as I know, our assistance was never taken.
So, here we are now, and at least we are making progress even if it's
later than we hoped. This year was a trial run for a lot of people who
were doing the virtual convention for the first time. This request for
feedback is a part of the effort to make things more accessible for
all next summer. I suspect we will be having another virtual
convention, but who knows?
TO clarify, they used live captioners at the event and the Zoom
feature which allows them to have live captioning. There is a Zoom
plug-in called Rev Live Captions, which provides automatic captions,
this is not what the NFB used. Live captioners, yes, that plug in for
Zoom, no. I'm not sure where the break down in clarity happened, but I
suspect it is partially because of that name. I'm just glad we are
moving forward with this!
Thanks for your feedback concerning the presidential release. Were you
using Mac OS with VoiceOver and a braille display or an iOS device to
follow the captions? I'm glad you had success with it in either case.

The reason why I say I wish the edit occurred earlier this could have
been employed for our state's upcoming state convention. This would
especially be helpful, if there was some idea of the cost and figure out
the cost is lower to do the stream caption than the zoom captioning
which is actually done by a live person. What I'm getting at here is
both services have humans doing the transcription. But when I have read
the normal captioning there seems to be some things missing. There is
last Thursday's experience I was happy that I did not miss a word of it.
