LAKES REGION NATIONAL FEDERATION OF THE BLIND of NH NEWSLETTER for November,
2010
We invite all persons interested in matters concerning blindness and low
vision to our meetings. We normally meet at 10:30 AM on the 3rd Saturday of
the month at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Parade Road (Rt 106), a
little north of Elm St., Laconia.
Last month we had a speaker from Service Link, Brenda Cumerer-Cyr, who told
us about her organization, and how it can help us answer questions, solve
problems, and find the services we need. One staff person is a specialist on
Medicare, and will help people fill out various forms. She also discussed
the new service slowly being introduced around the state, Belknap County
being one of the first to get it. They will stock a number of small aids and
appliances which will be of use to persons with various disabilities, and
clients will be able to borrow them for a month to try them out before
deciding whether or not to buy one.
Our next Lakes Region chapter meeting will be on the 3rd Saturday of
November, the 20th, at the usual time and place. Our speaker will be Heather
from the "211" telephone service, explaining what it is and what use we can
make of it. As usual we will end with our pot-luck lunch. First time
attendees and guests are not required to bring anything.
Please try to arrive by 10:30 for networking and socialization before our
meeting starts at 11.
We will also plan for our annual Christmas concert and dinner. The concert
will be at Interlakes School in Meredith Sunday December 12, at 3 PM, with
dinner in a nearby restaurant afterwards.
Our chapter will be selling candy, again, to meet operating costs. As usual
we will be ordering World's Finest Chocolate, and can get cases of 50 bars,
selling for $1 each, in assorted, milk chocolate with almonds, MC with
crispies, and with soft carmel centers. The single flavor boxes have
perforations to break in half, so you can order a half case. We can also get
cases of 25 boxes of individual chocolates, selling for $2 each, in Mint
Meltaway (individually wrapped mint-chocolate cubes [like the Girl Scout
cookies], Carmel worls (individually wrapped pieces with soft carmel
centers), and chocolate covered almonds. I will order immediately after the
chapter meeting, so if you cannot attend, please place your order by phone
or email. The little boxes make excellent stocking-stuffer gifts.

Do you know another blind or low vision person? Invite them to join us. We
are the blind working to help the blind by sharing information, techniques,
resources, and socialization. Help bring others to share with us. With their
permission give us their regular or e-mail addresses so we can send
announcements. We produce this newsletter in large print and by email. The
cassette version is temporarily suspended as my high speed tape duplicator
is out of order. Please request your preferred format.
