Hi all,

As you know, our New Perspectives Expo, graciously sponsored by the Disability Support Services office at UNC, is fast approaching. We would like to get a press release out to The Greeley Tribune and other local papers as soon as possible. We can also use the narrative part of the release to supplement with more of a description of the event to places where we have already taken or sent flyers.

We're thinking of getting the release out to the press by July 22nd at the earliest, so that we can hopefully get some coverage at the event and draw a broader audience. It would be awesome if you all could help compile a list of local papers to which we might send the release. It would also be good if we could have one or two people take responsibility for determining the appropriate address, (whether it be email or otherwise), at each paper, where we should send the release as well as sending out releases. The completed release is pasted below. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Marty Rahn,
Secretary, Greeley Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind

Individuals who are blind/low vision, their friends, family members, professionals working with people who are blind/low vision and students studying blindness related fields will have the opportunity to learn ways that blind people can use technology, complete daily tasks around the home, travel independently, and more.

Cody Bair, president of the Greeley Chapter of NFBCO said: "Many people in the community have approached our organization with questions pertaining to blindness and how a person with vision loss might accomplish certain tasks. Providing the New Perspectives Expo gives us the opportunity to answer these questions in a hands on and user friendly way." "Many people think loosing sight is scary," says Greeley chapter of NFBCO secretary and Teacher of the Visually Impaired Marty Rahn, "we want to show them that blindness is not a big deal. Once you have the tools and techniques in place, you can live just like anyone else. The Disability Support Services department at UNC generously donated the cost of hosting the event at the UNC Greeley campus allowing a central location for individuals in the community to gather and learn about blindness and vision loss.

Join the Greeley Chapter of NFBCO and the Disability Support Services Department of UNC on Wednesday, July 31 at The University Center to learn about the technology, techniques, and resources that people who are blind and low vision use to live normal and independent lives.
