Subject: [Nfb-greeley] 6-22-13 meeting minutes

Hi all,

Please find pasted below the minutes from the most recent meeting of our
chapter.

6/22/13

The meeting was called to order at 12:30 P.M. Members present were Linda,
Diane, Rita, Melissa, Marty, Dora, Bill Jessica, Cody, and Nure. Guests
present were Lisa and Everit Gavel Becca and Amanda Feelix. Rita brought in
a form from Ace Hardware for us to get a donation which we filled out and
will submit. There was a brief discussion about whether or not the minutes
from the May 18, 2013 meeting should be adopted as they were posted to the
ZFB of Greeley internet mailing list or whether they should be changed to
include a discussion on the April elections during which one of our members
brought up some concerns that she had about the way that she felt the
elections were handled. It was decided after further discussion and a vote
by a majority of the paid members present at this current meeting, that this
conversation need not be included in the minutes from the May 18th meeting
since at this same meeting, a discussion and review of the election
proceedures outlined in the newly developed chapter constitution and how
those same proceedures were followed during the elections was undertaken by
the membersship of the chapter. It was thus explained that the elections
had been conducted in accordance with the newly developed constitution of
this chapter. The minutes were then accepted with the amendment of the start
time of the meeting from 11:15 A.M. to 12:15 P.M. We have as of 5/31/13
$702.38. We wrote a check for $50 for the BELL Program and another for $50
for the rental of the park for our September picnic and $200 for the four of
us who are going to convention. We currently have $443.38. We made $140 from
the Cafe Mexicalli fundraiser and have $5 from the payment of Dora's dues
that were also deposited. There was some discussion about putting a donation
bucket on each table within the restaurant the next time we have our Cafe
Mexicalli fundraiser in order to potentially get donations. We need to check
and see if we can do this. The vision expo needs to be marketed to the
public now that we are a little more than a month out. Linda has given
Sherry Lobemeyer a copy of the flyer for the expo and she is going to
print it in the newsletter for the senior center. Linda contacted someone
at the tribune who said that if we email then they will also put the flyer
in the calendar of Events section. We should email the flyer to Kristen
Schmidt at kschmidt%greeleytrib_com. We talked about hanging flyers at UNC
and Diane said that she would be willing to do this. Marty will email the
flyer for our expo to Tanni Anthony so that it can be distributed to the
TVIS around the state, and we will create an event on facebook also. Melissa
will contact Dana at Aims and has also sent out the flyer to Becky Porter, a
rehab teacher in the area. Jessica suggested having a meeting with some of
the key stakeholders such as Vocational Rehabilitation either via the phone
or in person to discuss why our expo is important to them and their clients
besides dropping off the flyers at their offices. Linda has not had much
success in contacting the Colorado Talking Book Library. Jessica said that
they were on her vendor list and should have gotten the emails she has sent
out. DSS is sponsoring us and is covering the $400 cost of the room at UNC
for the expo. We have firm commitments from Freedom Scientific, Connections
for Independent Living, AKB Vision, Voc Rehab, Insight Skills Center,
Magnesite and the Audio Information Network of Colorado. Beyond Sight has
said that they are 95 percent sure that they will attend. AI Squared is
unable to attend and You Can Too Can will try to attend but will send
catalogs if they can't. We have received literature from The Guide Dog
Foundation, but have not received any from other guide dog schools that were
contacted including the Seeing Eye, Leader Dogs for the Blind and Guide Dogs
for the Blind. LEARNING Ally has also been contacted but we are unsure if
they are coming to our expo. Melissa will contact AGA and Cody will contact
USABA. Cody has contacted people about setting up a committee to work out
demonstrations at the expo. Marty, Nure, "jessica, Cody and Dora are on this
committee. This committee will meet this Monday evening at 7:00 P.M.
Regarding fundraising we are looking at exploring other places that do the
same as Cafe Mexicalli with the coupons that allow a group to earn a
percentage of the proceeds_Noodles and Company and Johnny Korinnos stand
out as possible restaurants for this type of fundraiser. Noodles does their
fundraiser throughout the entire state. Jessica suggested that we see if
Noodles could donate a meal that would feed a certain number of people and
we could sell tickets for $10 a piece or so. We will keep Noodles on the
back burner for now. Cody has been in contact with the president of the
local Lions Club. Melsssa and Jessica will present to the Lions Club on July
15th. They will be focusing their presentation on some of the activities in
which our chapter engages. We discussed making the candy bars and it was
decided that we should begin making them now for the expo. Convention is
coming up next week and we briefly discussed selling the remainder of our
water bottles at convention. Those who have bottles will take them to
convention. Chris has seven bottles and needs to get these to Jessica so
that they can be split up among those from our chapter who are going from
the Denver area. The park for our September 7th picnic is reserved from
10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. We discussed marketing our picnic and inviting
people in order to begin our push for the growth of our chapter membership.
Everit asked if we had contacted diabetic equipment manufacturers or
Envision America to demonstrate at our expo. He also suggested that we
invite someone involved with tandem cycling to our picnic to demonstrate how
tandem cycling works and to provide rides as a fun activity. Cody said that
he would make up a flyer for the picnic. He will also contact Lorinda to see
about the rules for public gaming so that we can have a 50-50 raffle at the
vision expo. For us to get a table at the UNC fall Bizarre, we would need to
pay $25. We think that the date of the Bizarre is August 26, but Melissa
will verify the exact date and email the members. We'd also like to have a
table at AIMS Welcome Week, but we are not sure when it is and have been
unable to contact anyone at AIMS to get details. Jessica gave us a quick
report on the activities of our state afiliate The travel raffle has been
started again. Tickets are $10 for one and $2^ for three. Purchasers will
get their ticket numbers via email, but not their stubs unless they
specifically request them. The BELL program in West Minster will begin on
the 15th of July and run through the 27th. We were unable to have our BELL
program in Colorado Springs due to low numbers of registrants. October 17-20
are the dates of our state convention which will be held in Colorado
Springs. Room rates are $85 across the board. The Colorado Center for the
Blind is having a 25th year anniversary celebration on September 13-14th. We
have a new chapter that has been established in Fort Collins. It is called
the Poudre Valley chapter. The meeting was adjourned at 2:00 P.M.

Respectfully submitted,
Marty Rahn, Secretary
