Subject: [Nfb-greeley] 5-18 meeting minutes

Hi all,

Please find the minutes for yesterday's meeting pasted below. Please let me
know if there are any corrections. Thanks.

5/18/13

The meeting was called to order at 11:15 AM. We went around and did intros
for the benefit of those who haven't been to a meeting in quite some time.
Cody, Nure Melissa, Marty, Linda, Diane Joe, Rita and dora were all present
at the beginning of the meeting with Bill coming in later. Cody went through
the agenda which was vnting on the minutes followed by the treasurer's
report, info on the vision expo, fundraising, the piçnic for the chapter and
the UNC BIZARRE and anouncements for national convention. We approved last
month's meeting minutes with the corrcction of changing of Lorinda's name to
from loraine in the minutes. The treasurer said that we currently had a
balance of $652.38 in our account. We had $622.38 last month and collected
$80 in dues the sale of two water bottles and a donation of $4. The check
that was written out as a donation for the BELL program was for $50. The New
Perspectives Vision Expo which will be held on July 31st in the Colombine A
and B Ballrooms at the University Center on the UNC campus. The committee
met the Wednesday after our last meeting to discuss the planning of the
fair. They divided the exhibitor's into fourths then they each contacted
their respective groups of exhibitors. Cody has a commitment from Francie
Leafert with Nanopack, a distributor of Freedom Scientific products, and
DVR. Melissa said she has a commitment from Connections for Independent
living. She has also contcted You Can To Can, the vision program at UNC,
Dana Jones, the DISABLED Student Services office director at Aims, Envision
and North Range Behavioral Health, but does not yet have firm commitments
from these contacts. Linda has contacted Curtis Strong and has received a
verbal commitmentf the person dayd Steve with whom she spoke. Linda left
messages for Debbie McLeod, director of the Colorado Talking Book Library
who is out of the office, as well as Kim Ann Warrilow from the Audio
Information Network of Colorado to try to pen down their commitments. Dora
has not contacted Techy Joe yet, but will do so soon. The time of the fair
will run from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The chapter will not be providing lunch
because of the catering difficulties and the money that it would cost to
have it catered by UNC. UNC will give us water and coffee for free. Melissa
will check on how much the catering fthrough UNC would cost so that we at
least have an idea. The room will cost $400 for that time and the state will
cover some of this cost according to Jessica, but it would be good if the
chapter could cover at least half of the cost. This would be about $200.00.
Lunch was briefly discussed for those of us do would be there all day, and
it was decided that we could either bring our own lunch or go in shifts to
the various venues around the UNIVERSITY Center. It was asked why we were
not having the fair at the Sensor Center and it was explained that we will
be able to fit more exhibitors in the ballrooms, that the Senior Center is
pretty booked during the week and is only open a certain amount of time on
the weekends. Overall, it was felt that the ballrooms at the University
Center will allow us to accommodate and attract more guests due to the
centrality of the location. The chapter will have a table and there will
also be a literature table. We discussed marketing the fair by having an ad
placed in the Greeley Tribune, placing additional ads in some of the senior
newsletters and hanging flyers on the UNC and Aims campuses. It was
suggested that we write up a uniform ad to place in the papers and
newsletters. It was further suggested that we can take the rellivant details
from our flyer to place in these ads to avoid spending a lot of money when
ads charge for spaceever or by number of words. Cody will send the flyer to
the Greeley List. We discussed having a 50-50 rafle and taking down contact
info so that we can get in touch with those who have already left by the
time the drawing is held. Everyone seemed aminable to this idea. We are
planning to begin advertising the fair around the 1st of July. The committee
and its various members will have an updated report on the 22nd of June as
to the number of new commitments that have been confirmed, and other details
rrlated to planning for the fair. We then took up the topic of fundraising.
MELISSA stated that she has emailed the owner of the Cafe Mexicali. The
restaurant will design a couprn with the NFB logo and stating that the NFB
of Gffeeley will get 20 percent of the proceeds from those who present these
coupons on a certain night of our choosing. We discussed choosing a date
for this sometime during the first waek in June. Melissa said that she would
email the owner of the restaurant today with the date. It was suggested that
if we are going to advertise in other places such as Denver that we talk to
Jessica to see if we can get a van to bring people up on the night of the
fundraiser. Nur'e will talk with Jessica about this. Nure suggested having
an auction but we were unsure of how to do this seeing as howthe event is
being held at the restaurazt itself. The restaurant is located on Center
Place Drive in the shopping center there. June 7th was suggested and agreed
upon as the date to have the Cafe Mexicalli fundraiser. Regarding the bake
sale, Cody has had minimal success with contacting Wallmart and King
Soopers. We discussed talking to a nonprofit such as the Arc Thrift Store.
It was decided that this is what we would do. We briefly discussed making
the chocolate bars using the braille molds and Diane said that along with
Linda, Melsssa and Marty, she would help make candybars. Cody thenbrought up
trying to get a grant from the local Lions Club. Cody will research the
grant with Dora's help, and will hopefully have a leport by the next
meeting. Joe Stultz suggested that we need to develop a working relationship
with the members of our local chapter rthe Lions Club. He told us that the
local Lions chapter meets at the Rec Center every Monday night. We moved
next discussed National Convention. Web registration will close on June 1st.
This is also the point at which our block of rooms will no longer be held
at the hotel. Melissa, myself, Rita, Dora, Nure and Cody are going to
National this year from our chapter. We talked briefly about whether or not
to get more water bootles and decided that we have 12 left which would be a
pure profit of $96.00 if we can sell all of them at convention. A motion was
made and seconded that we give $50 to the four of us going to convention who
are not having their way paid by either state or national due to their
winning scholarships. This would total $200 that the chapter would give.
The m"tion was approved. Cody then asked about a summer picnic for the
chapter. Linda brought up that it would be $50 to reserve the park. A
discussion ensued about whether the chapter should cover either the cost of
reserving the park or the main food item with others bringing sides much
like we did last year. It was motioned and seconded that the chapter cover
the park and perhaps the food once we see how much revenue our fundraising
efforts produce. This was appooved. We talked about reserving Sedborn park
forSaturday September 7th. Linda will reserve the park. Melsssa will check
on possible costs and what it would take to have a table at both the Unca
Bizarre and Aims Welcome Week. Cody informed us that NFBCO now has a
transportation committee that is working o improving transprotation across
the entire state. This committee is run by Gary Vandorn who would like to be
at one of our meetings. We set the date of the next meeting in july for
Saturday July 20th. The meeting for June is on the 22nd. The meeting was
adjourned at 2:00 PM.
