Our newest Independent Living Specialist Diane Filipe
Staff Feature

Diane Filipe has worked at Connections for Independent Living as an Independent Living Specialist for nearly 10 months. Before this she interned both in her undergraduate and masters on the way to getting her masters in Rehabilitation Counselling.
The native Coloradan was born in Denver, raised in Boulder and after a brief stint on the East Coast, returned to Colorado to be with her family after 9/11/01. A love of animals has stayed with her through her whole life. She grew up with cows, so they’re still her favorite, but she now has a cat named Tia and a dog named Moo. Diane loves gardening, Aerosmith, and crafts. She is working to incorporate crafts into her work at Connections by starting a new crafting class here in November. Her final words for Connections’ consumers are to always have courage and tenacity. In her life of hardship, including being diagnosed with diabetes at 18, marrying an addict and alcoholic, and losing her sight to the diabetes in 2004,
Diane has kept her courage about her. She lives by the phrase, “no is not the answer” which is posted above her desk and she says: “The best way to get me to do something is to tell me no, because I will fight tooth and nail until the answer is yes,” an approach she brings to her work at Connections

Our Director Search
Connections is still in the process of hiring a new Executive Director.  We will announce the results when the process concludes.
Adaptive Yoga is Now Twice a Month at the Greeley Rec Center!
The free adaptive yoga classes at the Greeley Rec Center are now held twice each month for one hour. Come on out and show support for adaptive programming at the rec center!

Microsoft Office Classes
Are you interested in learning how to use Microsoft Word, Excel, or Powerpoint?
The Microsoft Office suite allows you to create professional charts, graphs, presentations, and documents, and can be an important part of getting hired in certain areas.
If you are interested in adding important new skills to your resume or developing skills for personal use, you may be interested in new courses being taught at Connections in October.

WAND Meeting
The Weld Advocacy Network on Disability meets here the Fourth Thursday of each month (third Thursday in November and December).  Join us to learn about and advocate for transportation and recreation accessibility as well as a range of other issues.  All or welcome, pizza is served.

Adaptive Yoga at the Greeley Rec Center
This gentle class is adapted for each individual who attends.  Some practice in chairs, and some on mats, and we have plenty of props to make you comfortable.
