[Nfb-idaho] FW: [NCSAB Members] President's Infrastructure Plan Leaked

We have been hearing for a while that the President was planning to release his Administration’s infrastructure plan prior to the State of the Union, so that he could talk about it in his speech.  Today, a leaked copy of that plan was released to the public.  Like the President’s budget proposal last year, it includes rest area commercialization and authority to impose tolls on federal highways.

 

The Administration has declined to comment on the leaked document.

 

As expected, on page 4 of the document summary, it states that rest area commercialization would be permitted as a way for states to raise revenues.  While there are different programs outlined in the document, and they have different funding sources and different match levels/requirements, as expected, states will need to provide 80% of the funding for core infrastructure projects and the federal government would provide a 20% match.

 

If rest area commercialization and highway tolling are a concern for your program, and you have not yet educated your state Department of Transportation and governor’s office about the impact of rest area commercialization and tolling on blind entrepreneurs, funding for your Randolph-Sheppard program, and broader implications for your VR agency and its resources to make the federal match, please take steps to do so.
