“The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want; Blindness is not what holds you back.”

Subject: Menus4ALL - Please Help with Grant Survey

Hello Dana,

We had an amazing opportunity to attend the NBF National Convention in Orlando last year as guests of our local Tennessee Chapter. Christina Clift the Tennessee president lives in Memphis, as I do, and she has been very supportive of our Menus4ALL project.

The way we see things, part of eating out for everyone is reading the menu. Enjoying the review of all the yummy options, and casually picking something within your budget. But for customers with visual impairments in most cities it's rare they are provided a braille or large print menu. And a menu with current prices is often deemed too cost prohibitive.

Menus4ALL is out to change this with a mobile app on iPhones first that knows what restaurant you are in and if they subscribe to our services "bam" a fully accessible menu is available. A menu that works with VoiceOver, has 3 levels of low vision display settings and even supports braille when an iPhone is paired with a refreshable braille display.

Menus are only part of our story. The operations side of our business is set up to be staffed with local Memphis marketing, social media and customer service professionals who are blind or have low vision. Our current supporters have helped us improve and pilot our web-based product here in Memphis for the last year.

This April we are applying for an NIH grant to convert our current web-based prototype to a mobile app. Which will allow us to provide menus nationwide. Then publish the app to the Apple Store for free.

But in order to be awarded the $10,000 grant, we need to prove the need and desire is there for Menus4ALL.

Would you consider asking your chapters and their members to take our FREE online accessible survey? This would help us out greatly. If you have any questions please reach.
