[NFB-Idaho] Joyce Scanlan from Minnesota passed away yesterday

Last night, I received a call from Pat and Trudy Barrett who were active
members in Idaho before moving to Minnesota in the 1990s.Pat told me that
Joyce Scanlan went into the hospital on Christmas day with congestive heart
failure and died yesterday. I first met Joyce and her husband Tom when I was
flying back to Minnesota during my college days at St. Olaf. Joyce was the
director of training at BLIND Inc. for a long time. Pat said she was in her
80's. Pat, Trudy, and I had a very long conversation. I'm glad we don't have
to pay for long distance calls by the minute anymore, because this call
would have bankrupted us. Pat is working for Blind Services of Minnesota as
a braille proofreader. There daughter and granddaughter live with them and
Trudy enjoys helping to care for their granddaughter who is 2 years old.
They plan to move back to Idaho when Pat retires which will be around 6
years from now. They asked that I post this update for all members who knew
them in Idaho.
