[NFB-Idaho] Why the NFB Idaho hospitality room must be in the sleeping room section of the hotel

During this past convention, several individuals posed this question, so
here is the answer. Hotels will not allow an entity to serve their own food
in hotel function room space. The primary reasons are that if we served our
own food in this space, we are taking away revenue from the hotel. The other
reason is for liability. If we served food in this space, and people got
food poisoning, the hotel could be liable and possibly sued. These are the
two main reasons. Hotels cannot tell people what they can do or not do in
their sleeping rooms. Obviously, if someone damages a sleeping room, then
that person would pay for the damages. A hotel can't tell someone what food
they can have in a sleeping room. This is why we must have hospitality rooms
on the sleeping side. We did have our Thursday night reception in the
function space this year, but we paid for the food rather than having the
host chapter provide it. The main reason for this was precaution with Covid.
Hotel food is much more costly than bringing our own food or buying food
from a store. We try to be careful about our spending, so we typically have
brought food for our reception.
