Fellow Federationists,

I have just learned from sociologist colleagues that the American
Community Survey (contributor to the US Census) is considering changes
in how it collects disability data. This change will negatively impact
people with disabilities. It could reduce the count of people with
disabilities from 14% to 8% which would mean about 20 million disabled
people would not be counted. This could affect decisions about Federal
and State level disaster preparedness and response, Medicaid, housing,
education, and more.

There is a small window to provide input to ask the US Census not to do
this. The deadline to put in comments is December 19, 2023.

The following URL goes to more information at the website of the
National Disability Rights Network, along with a form that you can use
to send a letter to the American Community Survey regarding the proposed
changes.
