I'm not sure if you are aware of this, so I thought I would try to bring you up to speed.

In 2021, Courageous Kids Climbing coordinated one of our Climbing On Stuff events. These events are opportunities for school age kids who are blind or visually challenged to look at things with their hands. To date, the kids have spent an afternoon with the Nez Perce tribe and looked at race cars, army tanks, an army helicopter, an Air Force fighter jet and learned about smokejumpers.

At the 2021 event, we had one teemage come out to learn about the Idaho State Police and Lewiston Police. During the event, Caleb was asked how law enforcement officers can assist him. Caleb explained.

As a result of this, Caleb developed a training program for law enforcement on how to better interact with the blind.

This training has reached around 100 first responders across Idaho.

Caleb's lesson plan has been taken by the Disability Action Center North West and they are converting it into a video. There is already considerable interest in Washington and Idaho to add the completed video to their on-line training for Pease Officers Standard Training.

There is more detail, but I tried to keep it brief!

Hello all!

Just to keep you up to date, we finished our first full day of filming the Interacting with the Blind training video. This first part was just the narration. We used 5 people who are blind to narrate the separate segments.

Next up will be the “B roll” which will cover the actual demonstrations of what’s being talked about. Caleb will be involved heavily in this portion. And I will be reaching out to the City of Lewiston for policemen to be involved. We are looking into possibly mid to late April for that, I want the outdoor weather to be nice by then. I’ll be in touch!

Thanks for being a part of this great project!
