I did call them back and now I have confirmation of my reservation.

I also asked about the fact that Dana and I didn't have to give a credit
card number, but Larry and Sue did. Here is what I was told:

"It depends who takes the reservation. Younger people don't ask for a card.
People who have been here (at the hotel) for awhile will ask for a card.
But it doesn't matter. We don't bill the card until you're checking out."
