I thought everyone would like to see this. I hope people will be inspired to
follow Ramona's lead and become contributors to the museum. I am also a
contributor and I'm sure there are others. This is a
way to have the legacy of the federation continue far after we have left
this world.

Museum of the Blind People's Movement - Our Insiders Newsletter
Welcome to the latest edition of the Museum of the Blind People's Movement
newsletter! In this issue, we spoke with Ramona Walhof, a dedicated member
of the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) and a passionate advocate for
the museum. Ramona has been at the forefront of our movement for over 60
years, and her commitment to preserving and sharing the stories of blind
people's achievements is at the heart of our mission. Join us as we delve
into her hopes for a museum that celebrates our legacy and empowers future
generations. Thank you for your continued support in bringing this dream to
life.
A Museum for All: Ramona's Dedication
We recently sat down with Ramona Walhof, long time Federationist and Museum
of the Blind People's Movement Honor Roll member. Ramona shared with us her
hopes for the museum and what this project means to not only her, but her
entire family.
Ramona's mother, who recently turned 100, worked for the Iowa Commission for
the Blind and dedicated her life to advancing the lives of blind people.
Ramona and her siblings, active National Federation of the Blind members,
chose to honor their mother's lifelong dedication by presenting her with a
certificate of appreciation and making a joint contribution to the Museum of
the Blind People's Movement.
Ramona, who has been a part of the NFB for 60 years, is passionate about
sharing the achievements of blind people from our perspective. She envisions
the museum as a place where the legacy of the blind people's movement can be
told in a unique way, with exhibits that are both descriptive and
engaging-such as explaining the "eye of a hurricane" and creating accessible
experiences for the blind.
When talking about challenging misconceptions, Ramona said, "Whether it's
people driving a car, raising kids, traveling abroad, or climbing to the top
of a rainforest canopy...everyone has their own notions of what they want to
do, and it's exciting. I'd like to experience the rainforest myself, but if
I can't, I'd like someone to give me a good description and time sequence."
For Ramona, the Museum of the Blind People's Movement represents hope and
mentorship, helping people overcome the fear of blindness and guiding them
toward independence. Looking ahead, she's excited about the future of the
museum and hopes visitors will encounter experiences that can't be found
elsewhere.
Pledges and Contributions Update
Thanks to your generosity, we have continued to grow financial support for
the museum. To date, we have secured $5,156,492.94 from over one hundred and
ten contributors. We also have pending requests from contributors that are
considering the amount of their pledge.
Once again, thank you for your unwavering support. Together, we are making
strides towards a more inclusive and equitable world for the blind.
