<p class="MsoNormal">There are several different types of plant based yogurts = made with coconut milk, almond milk, and soy milk. If you can’t find it at your local supermarket, try Sprouts or Whole Foods, or Down to Earth (a chain of natural and organic
vegetarian foods in Hawaii). You need to look at the ingredients. Some have sweeteners, some do not. My daughter and her husband use almond yogurt, for both American foods and South Asian/Indian recipes (he is Indian). But you need to read the nutritional
analysis to see how much fat is in the different brands. I would think that coconut yogurt has a lot of saturated fat, unless they used fat free or low fat coconut milk.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">For beans and gas, what I’ve heard from a plant based GI physician is to start off really slowly, eating just a little bit only once a day. Do this for a short while, then add a little more and keep building from there. Your guts need to
get used to beans slowly. If that doesn’t work, try using something called Beano. They might have other things like that out now. Check out a book called Fiber Fueled by a plant based GI doctor with a long name (I can’t spell it). If you have the Bard app
on your cell phone, I think they have the audio book. There is also a Fiber Fueled Cookbook. Oh, also, Kombu, a type of Japanese seaweed, when placed in a pot of beans, is said to greatly reduce the amount of gas from the beans. You only need to use a postage
stamp size of kombu. I don’t know where you live to know if you could find kombu in supermarkets. If you cannot, they sell it on amazon.

<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I recently heard about a plant based author named Toni Okamoto who has written plant based recipe books. 2 of them are named Plant Based on a Budget, and also Plant Based on a Budget Quick and Easy. The recipes in the 2<sup>nd</sup> book
has fewer ingredients (no more than 7). I heard the author interviewed on several plant based podcasts. She’s really practical and has good tips. I couldn’t find her books on Bard, but I did find them on bookshare, using the Bookshare Reader app.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">If you are having digestive issues, you may want to try eating more oats – either rolled oats (also called Old Fashioned Oats) or Steel cut Oats (also called Irish Oats). The steel cut oats are less processed so they cook a little longer.
If you have a pressure cooker or Instant Pot cooker, it doesn’t take long at all. Otherwise, I used to soak the steel cut oats in water overnight. Then in the morning they cook really fast on the stove. Anyway, I have heard oats have the kind of fiber that
the good gut bacteria really like to eat. And so eating oats should help your guts. I also try to include rolled oats in a lot of other recipes, such as when I make meatless “meat” balls or vegan patties, in pancakes/waffles, or in different types of desserts.

<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Other good resources for good plant based recipes include the websites for Forks over Knives and Food Revolution. There are many more, but those of 2 of my favorites.<o:p></o:p></p>
