[Nfb-krafters-korner] Security and Privacy

To Becky and Nancy,
This was an error on my part.  The message I wrote was supposed to go privately to Lappland and Mary Crawford who signed up for a soap class but never attended and left no formal contact information with their teacher, Joyce Kane, President of this group.
After having trouble with the teleconferencing line I tried to contact all her students but found that several never provided any formal alternate information since the inception of this group.
Also, after retiring from a professional corporate and teaching working environment after 30 years, I thoroughly respect the privacy of peoples personal information. On the other hand, as Secretary of this new group find it difficult to report on membership information to an organization whose Constitution enables a $5.00 yearly membership fee, but then has difficulty obtaining this information from students wanting to register for a free class without giving their teacher the simplest of courtesy by providing alternative contact information, like name, address and phone number so they can be easily contacted when there is a problem with the functioning of electronic equipment.
We are trying to resolve this issue by the installation of our new blog site where in the coming year students will have to register for classes and provide appropriate information.
Again, I'm sorry the former message was released to the public site, just a matter of not changing the address line, but people were asked to reply to my personal email site not the public site.  Yes, I do list my phone number because I believe that if I'm holding a public office I should provide people with easy access to my information.
We are all new at learning how to create this nationwide group and are progressing as fast as we can with new technology to handle each individual situation.  Let me assure you that there was never any intention of posting a full membership list to this public site.
    Thank you,
    Audrey Wellner,
    Secretary of NFB Krafters Korner

Dear Fellow Crafters,

Perhaps this is because of my 28 years in human resources where privacy was
drilled into us. We all need to have another more secure way, maybe on our
password protected sign-up page where we can collect a membership list with
names, addresses and email addresses. Email isn't secure and having folks
personal addresses and phone numbers circulated on a list that anyone can
access makes me squishy. Maybe its just me, and if so, I'll be quiet.

Happy crafting.

Nancy Yeager

Hi,
I'm Audrey Wellner, Secretary of NFB Krafters Korner. Joyce Kane, President

and teacher of the "Fun with Soap class" asked me to reply to your
email and

inform you that her computer is down right now and she would like to call
you, but can't because you haven't provided alternative contact
information.

Please send me your name, address and a phone number so I can give that
information to Joyce and we can have accurate information for our records.
You have been on our list since its inception, but have no idea how to
contact you other than internet. Please help us update our records so when
we report to the NFB convention in Detriot this coming year we can continue
this group and project a professional image the NFB would be proud of.
Thank you,
Audrey J. Wellner,
Secretary of NFB Krafters Korner

I would be interested in making a belt. I have seen several belts sold in
stores that are made with knots.

When I first joined this list I mentioned some of the crafts I used to do,
some of which would be good for classes. I was originally going to teach
one on making the woven ribbon birds, but found that the type of ribbon I
used to use is no longer available anywhere. So that's out, unless the
supply of ribbon changes.

However, I have a few other suggestions for classes based on input from this
list. A few people said they would like to learn macramé. Macramé is
actually quite easy and there are lots of little projects that would be
suitable for a class.
Would anyone like to learn some simple but effective patterns for making
belts in macramé?
I can think of 2 different patterns using different types of knots and jute
and beads, and the result is quite pretty.
You also can vary the length by just tying or untying a few knots.
There is also a pretty pattern for a pot hanger.
Using the sknots you learn in these projects you can easily get creative and
make complex wall hangings, which are not only visually attractive but
tactile as well.

So if anyone wants to do macramé sometime next year, please post.

As for the other class I thought to do, it's getting a little late to do a
Christmas star, but I have a project using a spool of wire, 90 straws and
some garland (which you cut in pieces to tie to the star in various places).
The result is a 3 dimensional star with 60 points that is quite large --
meant to be hung in the corner rather than stuck on a tree.
It is really a fun project, and you'll have everyone admiring it.
Oh well, maybe next year. I know all the components are available (wire,
drinking straws and tinsil garland). It's just a matter of scheduling. If
you want I could teach the class before next Christmas when there is more
time to organize.

Comments welcome.
Have a nice weekend!
