I think folks should let others know they are departing the  
conference/class.  As we hear the sound that the conference makes when  someone is leaving 
and by you bidding farewell then we know who is gone and who  is left.  As 
we introduce ourselves when we come into a conference.
 
The other service we first used you had to state your bname upon  entering.
