Hi Henrietta,

Yes, you can make handles that way.  You can do an over the top handle by 
wrapping the handle all the way across, ankoring it on the other side to two 
rows, turning and wrapping back across and ankoring it along the initial 
handle row according to pattern wraps.  Do this back and forth, ankoring on 
either end of the basket until it is the thickness you want.
