If you have done cross stitch, you might like to try your hand at plastic canvis.  We are in the middle of a class, right now, but after the holidays, I can work with you over the phone.  I find mini samples to be helpful, too.
Let me know what you think.  Who knows, you might be able to teach me something.

Hi everyone,
My name is Deanna and I am new to the group. I live in Cincinnati, OH and love doing work with my hands. I love to work on quilts especially, I have made one queen size quilt, all by hand. Currently I am making squares for more quilts. I do all my quilting by a hand as I have never learned how to properly use a sewing machine. And they mean more to me by knowing I put all that work and blood (I poke myself a lot smile) into them.
I used to do counted cross stitch, but haven't worked on one of those for a few years. It's hard for me to read the charts now since my vision has decreased significantly.
I am looking forward to learning new things from this group. .
