[Nfb-krafters-korner] How are the beaded projects doing?

Beadwork sounds so interesting, but not having ever done it, what do I need
to buy to get started and what would be the easiest project to begin
practicing. I know nothing of beadwork. Kind Regards. Valerie

Laura:
Okay a little bit of an update on my progress with the snow flakes. I am
sure that the power pro threading material I was original using is not for
me. Its too floppy & loosy goosy. Today, I sat down with the beads and
some fine soft flex which is a very nice beading wire. It was much much
easier to control, but still not problem free. I use bead stoppers which
are little tight coils/springs that you pinch apart and put the stringing
material between the coils of the spring and then let it close. For me
this works much better than a stop bead on the soft flex. I was still
having difficulty once I'd complete a circle, at the point I had the
stopper. I took the stopper off after having completed the initial picots
of add 3 go through 1. At the point I took the stopper off, the circle came
undone, but my beads did not all fall off. I had a nice design of the
picots that were curling a little, so I just re-connected the circle as best
I could.
In my mind, it is indicating to me that I may do much better experimenting
with a fine gauge wire in about a 30-32 gauge in a dead soft. It will not
have the same look as what Laurie does, but I think will let me work through
an entire snow flake without it falling apart on me. I have to order some
silver or crafting wire and play with it before I can say this will
definitely be a solution for my clumsy finger problem.
I suspect the wire will show through the beads because its not as fine as
the threads for traditional bead weaving. And, to finish it off it may
require some wire wrapping technique or else crimping. Again I need to play
with it before I can comment any more on how it works.
