Hi karla,

Welcome to the group! My name is Susan and I'm in Virginia. I am currently
working on a crochetted lap throw for the Red Cross's Webb of Hope. It is
what I call a crazy pattern. This one is in about 6 different shades of
brown with the base color being tan. I use scrap yarn and cut each color
into about 3 foot strands, twist them into a bundle and toss them in either
a paper bag or one of the large ziplocks. I mix all the colors together and
then one by one, I pick a bundle out and begin the basic granny square and
just add to it strand by strand so that the colors are randomly mixed as you
go round and round the square. I will also crochet in a solid row of tan
between 1 or 2 rows of the mixed rows. This sort of makes varigated yarn,
however, it is more randum and gives you a very unique pattern. I have done
them in a mix of all kinds of different colors as well as choosing certain
shades and combination colors. It can take time to do because of constantly
adding each strand of color, but it is the perfect way to use up left over
yarn. I get the yarn from the Red Cross and a lot of it is not whole
skeins, so I have to do a lot of mix and matching.

I am getting ready to take a box of items to the Webb of Hope on Monday. I
have a pretty good size plastic storage box that i take with me each time
and they fill it with yarn. As I make my items, such as lap throws, hats,
scarfs, ear warmers, shalls, and some baby items, I put them in plastic bags
and just put them back in the box. When I run out of yarn, then back I go
to a meeting, turn in my items and fill the box once again. I love it!

I knit, crochet and lap loom the items for the Webb of Hope.

I know you will really love being with this group. enjoy yourself and
please have fun with whatever your craft is!
