Awesome, Terry. I will have to do the project when I get back in town as
getting to the store is a little tricky at times. I should have signed up
for one of the kits.

Joy;
The squares come in packs of 10, 7 count canvas. The one I get has a blue
and white label. The brand with out a label has a loop at the top that you
will have to cut off. The squares are 4 inch square. Make sure the edges are
smoothe before buying. I have run across defective ones in the past. Size
16 needles. 2 colors of coordinating yarn or a verigated and a matching
solid. Sizzors, of course! Let me know when you get your supplies. This
patern uses 1 square per coaster. Most paterns need a blank square for a
back. I can show you how to put on the back or finish it with out the back.
It is your choice.

Terry

The trees were more triangular in shape. I do not have any usable sight so I
mark scains of yarn for color. I had twenty-twenty vision when I was young
so I have an understanding of colors and what goes together and the like. I
would be interested in trying the project. I do not have any cut square but
I do know where to go to get them. Our Mikel's had loads of different
threaded plastic canvas. Threaded is probably not the correct term, but them
holes, thickness of thread or fiber varied. I will have to look for the
picture in my Christmas stuff. I'm not sure that I have it anymore. My
recollection is that the trees started as a point at the top and sloped out
on either side and then there was a stem/trunk at the bottom. There were, I
think three trees across and they might have been at differing heights. I
won't be able to get up there to look at the Christmas stuff for a couple of
weeks since I'll be out of town but I will look and let you know. If we took
a picture of it, and it had a good background on it would that do anything
for you? WE could send you a print out or email you a digital picture.

Our first class was a loop coaster. It has 5 square loops, in altranating
colors and a square block in the center. Do you have any pre cut squares?
What kind of stitch did you use for the tree. Was the tree, just a
triangle, or did you show the branches. I want to learn how to make one.
Do you have any site? Any ability to tell colors? Mine is less than
20/400, tunnel vision. I have optic atriphy from a blood clot when I was a
baby.

I can send you the hand out, a revision of my book, I wrote for Verizons for
the Blind. Just let me know.

I would love to see a sample. I would especially be interested in seeing how
different patterns on the canvas are handled. I did a plastic canvas picture
many years ago witch was a picture of several Christmas trees with a darker
back ground so you had to do the trees and then do the background. My then
home economics teacher took something like a masking tape and outlined the
trees and then removed it after the trees were done. I might be interested
in doing a plastic canvas bag which would be lined and a good bag for
carrying crafts or whatever.

Thanks. I want to learn some new shapes and I thought a friend could
highlight one of the 2 colors on the raised line paper. I want to learn
some Christmas shapes. Let me know if you want any one on one or any samples
of what we have done. I finally have long distance.

Hi Terry,

APH American Printing House for the Blind; 1839 Frankfort Ave. Louisville,
KY 40206. http://www.aph.org. There's a link on the main page to tactile
drawings. I haven't been able to connect with the plastic canvas classes
yet, but using tactile drawings peaks my interest.

Neeto!
Might be helpful for plastic canvis. How big are the squares? I love this
idea. Sure wish I had heard about it sooner! Friends could highlite one of
a two color patern for me. Rejoyce, if the squares are big enough.

Terry
If I can learn something new, than I can translate it to text, like I am
working on right now.

tom:

I recently found out that APH sells sheets of what they call "Bold Line"
graph paper. It has raised lines and you can feel it. They sell it for $10
per pack of about 50 sheets of paper and in either 1" or 1/2" squares on
11-1/2 by 11" paper or 8" by 11" paper. If you need a larger surface for
mapping something out, you can tape multiple pages together.

I am planning on using it for mapping out bead loom & knitting designs.

However, I don't like the idea of the paints or glues since they go on wet
and once on the paper,I think would be difficult to wipe off and change if
you don't like it or make a mistake. Instead, I am planning on purchasing a
spool of craft wire that is easily bent into different shapes and then
lightly taping the wire onto the graph paper. Of course, its important to
realize that with beading or knitting, you can't get half a bead or stitch,
so even though up close it may appear a little geometric and not exactly as
smooth lines, it must translate into a whole bead or 1 stitch when working
in your medium. Hope this helps.

Eileen
