These guide dog stories have been fun!
What a change from computers, computers, stream, KNFB reader, and a little crafts. Just not enough time to belong to the Guide dog list. After missing one day at work, it takes for ever to wade through 3 days of mail.

Dog number 7, Chloe, was always getting into some sort of trouble whether on her own or with her partner in crime, one of our cats. So as soon as I would hear something that sounded like she was into something she should not, all I had to do is say "Kennel". So one night I was sitting at the kitchen table talking to a friend, and with in the conversation about dog guide schools, I said the word kennel. Not realizing what I had said, I thought it was very odd that Chloe had come trotting through the kitchen and into her kennel. Once I realized what had happened, I gave a few tests, and when ever the word "kennel" was in the conversation, she would head to her kennel.

And yes, we have had to resort to spelling with all 8 of my guides, and all of my brother's and sister-in-laws guides.

Annette

well, all my dogs have answered to both their name and "puppadog" -- and "dog", and "canine", and "stinkerDoodle"...LOL We even resort to spelling words to avoid attracting their attention, but I do believe dogs understand more about what you are saying than you'd like to imagine.
Happy krafting.

Go for changing her name to something that flows off of your tongue. Misty sounds like a great choice.

My second dog's name was Glitter. She was a little spit-fire, and the trainer nicknamed her Glit-Shit and the dog had no problem responding to both names. Matter of fact that trainer is now at Seeing Eye.

My fourth dog's name was Tuesday and to this day in retirement she answers to Tuesday, Tues, Miss Tuesie and any other name that begins with a "T".

My seventh dog's name was Chloe and her trainer called her Chloebert and the dog had no problem answering to both names.

I have a friend who got her dog from the Seeing Eye and she changed her name altogether. The dog's name was Jinney and she changed it to scout. her husband's dog is named Venture. I have a kitty named musky and although she responds the name that I call her sometimes she responds to as well. So, she answers to Musky or Stink head. lol
