I have several sewing machines that I use. Like you say I do not use any
type of finger guard. I feel the fabric and the foot and I have made up a
seam guard.

I wonder if they still make a Bernina like what you have. I do have a
Bernina, a few Elnas, a Singer, a Feather weight Singer and my Mom is holding
on to the old Singer treddle machine that I learned on.

I have one Singer machine that I recently purchased that I got for making
buttonholes on. Well I have sewn overalls and then put the buttonholes on
the overalls. It has this special foot that you drop the button into and
fslide it so the button is tight and then you set the machine on buttonhole
which I have marked in order to know where to turn the knobs to and push the
footpeddle and walla it makes a perfect buttonhole that fits that
button!!! I paid $118 which included shipping for this baby and it was well worth
it.

I use to have a Futura Singer machine when my kids were growing up and it
had this feature for buttonholes on. The Futura died a while back so I did
a search for buttonhole foot or something like that and came up with this
newer model machine. It has built in stitches, but it is not computerized
and that is perfectly OK with me.

I have my Bernina that is computerized, but when I went to buy it I did not
get one that had a bunch of stitches as I would never remember what they
were and I would need help in finding them on the screen. My Bernina has
buttons and I have a list of what is what.
