We have used this method here at the Center.  We have two conference room tables that we push up against each other.  This groove works great for cutting fabric and Wrapping paper.

Hmmmm I wonder if a person opened the center of their dining table 
and used that crack for the straight cutting if it would work. I will 
have to try this.
