You should purchase the sample set from Knit Piks.  They are circular  
needle -24 inches long that you attach the knitting needle tips to.  They  give 
you a set of tips in size 6, 7 and 8.  You get a wooden , metal and  plastic 
one and it is $19.99 for them.  That way you can test out and  compare each 
of the needle point meterial out to see what you might like  better.
