[Nfb-krafters-korner] FQ: Hand-crafted gifts made by you verses hand-crafted gifts you purchase

I think that it is wonderful to support our fellow crafters. If I am unable
to make something that I find that would be appropriate to give as a gift,
then by all means purchase the item as a gift. Sometimes, I will purchase
an item to investigate it further, and figure out how to reproduce it, and
make it myself.

My mother in law used to make us a handmade Christmas ornament each year.
She would hand them out to each member of the family on Thanksgiving so it
could be displayed on the Christmas tree during that particular year. I had
always wanted to carry on my mother in law's tradition. She got really bad
with her Parkinson's about the same time I lost my sight. So, for a few
years that tradition was lost.

Last year, I had purchased handmade ornaments to hand out for the ornament
gift,. But, thank you to you all, I have resurrected the tradition, and as
long as I am able I will now continue her tradition!

NFB Krafters Korner's Friday's Question of the Week for December 10, 2010

What are your thoughts about buying a hand crafted item to give as a gift
versus a gift that you make?

The purpose of the NFB's Krafters Korner's Friday's Question of the week is
to stimulate craft related conversations and for the sharing of information
which crafters who are blind might find helpful. If you have ideas for
future Fridays Questions of the Week, please e-mail Annette at
amcarr1 at verizon.net or Joyce at Blindhands at aol.com.

Happy crafting,

Annette

Which craft store or online website would you suggest for Santa to shop for
you? What would you love to get from Santa if money had no limit?
