[Nfb-krafters-korner] Very Easy Prayer Shawl for Mary

Hi Mary;
Home spun yarn has a bumpy texture to it. It is also rather fuzzy. It is not smooth like most yarns. It is about as thick as three or four ply yarn, but will ravle very easily. That is why Eileen or Linda, yesterday, said not to make fringe out of it.

Hi Lynda and Terry,
I learned to knit in high schl. I probably made a scarf back then.
During a summer, when I was in college I made a scarf for one of
my favorite people, my sister-in-law, who has died since then.
I never knitted anything after that. I have tried and just put it away again.
Thank you for the idea. I don't know what gage is, though.
People also have reccommccded not to use homespun yarn as a beginner, whatever that is, lol!!
Thanks again for everyone's patience. I am determined now to learn how to join a class.
Mary

>I needed that, too! I am having a hard time getting my group to
give me paterns to follow. I did just start and I think they do
not really know how to translate a patern. I just asked how many
stitches do I need for a scarf. They said 20-30.

>OK, Mary. Here is the easiest Prayer Shawl you can make. You
can buy the yarn at Michaels of JoAnn stores. This is entired
done by knitting only and you need no stitch markers or anything
else - just plain knitting.

>Simple Prayer Shawl

>Needles:  Size  10.5
>Lion Brand Homespun Yarn: You will need about 4 skeins

>Check your gage before you begin to find out if you need larger
or smaller needles to get the gage.

>12 stitches plus 20 rows equal 4 inches
>BE SU"RE TO CHECK your gage first before you begin knitting the
shawl.;

>____BEGIN THE SHAWL

>Cast on 60 stitches

>Work in Garter Stitch - that means, KNIT every row.

>Work until you have 60 inches.
>Bind Off. Use a tapestry needle to weave in your ends.

>Your shawl is finished!  WUNDERBAR.
