Well on Jan 6 we are having a beginners class on the nifty knitter  
rectangle loom.  So you might give that a try.  They were having sales  on the 
Nifty knitter looms in Joann's Crafts prior to Christmas.
 
What do you want to make on a loom?  As you said there is all types of  
looms and I believe the one you are familiar with is the potholder loom.
