[Nfb-krafters-korner] Smelly Stuff

Zimmer, Cindy cindy.zimmer at nebraska.gov

Diane,
I just wanted you and others to know that a particular scent might not be the problem. You mentioned "Happy" and how your daughter in law (?) was wearing this and you liked it. Many times for me, it is not a particular scent, but how that scent mixes with a persons body oils. When I worked at a particular office my co-worker wore the same scent as a lady in the office 2 doors down. I went crazy sneezing and coughing in my office, but was fine around the other lady. Everyone's body chemistry is different and that changes the "scent".

Allergies killing me today!
Cindy

I have some questions and I would appreciate if you all can take a few
minutes to express your opinions. This group is yours and what you want to
do
with it with somehelp from the division board members. So let me know and
I will see what we can do.
Monday Night Chats:

1. Would you like to have a place on the website that has a list of
Monday Night Chat Topics coming up and that have gone by? Remember this
takes a
little time to organize and post so time is needed and commitments need to
be made and changes may not work out the best. I would prefer to simply have
the questions submitted via the email, but doing it both on the Web and the
email list would give more notice and wider visibility.

2. Topics can be on things regarding crafting and how to's with computer
things that we use or other topics that you think are interesting. Please
send:
_Blindhands at aol.com_ (mailto:Blindhands at aol.com) all topics and please
put in Subject line: Monday Night Topic. That will help me go through and
keep them separate.

3. We need folks to kinda host the Monday Night Chat. You really don't
need to know much about the topic if there is a topic chosen. Probably who

ever suggested the topic or one of us will host it, but you need to take
part and just stimulate conversation and ask your questions. So please let
me
know if you are willing to maybe host one of these in the future. We all
need to chip in and make this the best place for everyone. I would be
willing to do so.

4. Do you Think we should record the Monday Night Chats? There is good
and bad with this. It is a responsibility for someone to record and then
for
Laurie to put the recording up on send space. This is not a class. We
take the responsibility for all the classes for the recording to be done.
No, I think that the value of the chats is the more spontaneous interaction.
Someone could summarize if folks would like and that responsibility to shift
weekly.

6. Do you have a suggestion for a different time. We don't seem to be
attracting folks much further west and if anything can be done for more
folks
to join us I would like your opinion on that. Do you think if we bump it
up
to maybe a little later that would help? I wonder if we might want to
consider the week end since more people would be able to make a call toward
the middle of the day than can do so on a week night.

Joyce

Gee whiz, I just thought it was a good idea what I stumbled across and it
would save you money on what you go out in a store and purchase.

I do know that it is totally up to people and their noses on what they can
tolerate and not tolerate.

I do enjoy having the electric tart warmers going. I actually use to burn
candles a lot, but it hit me yesterday that for the last 2 weeks I had
gotten a couple of Yankee Candles and have been burning them and I have been
coughing and wheezing and had to go back up on my steroid medication. I
have to go see a pulmonary specialist on Monday. Maybe it is the candle. I
trim the wick, but I never thought of that. I had been using the tarts and
had gotten a couple of electric tart warmers, so today no candles burning
only electric tart warmer going. I will have to test it for a couple of
days. Dah, think Joyce.

I am enjoying vanilla cookie tart from Yankee Candle. They had a great
new one, too called Cinnamon Sugar that I really liked, too.

Joyce:

I'm not complaining about the soap class. I thoroughly enjoyed the class
and in fact love the soap scents. It's just that I realized I cannot use
them in the shower ... only as hand soap. And, honestly, on my sink counter
I like pump bottles of hand soap because they make less of a mess. I'm the
type of person who loves fragrances and doesn't feel dressed without perfume
applied. I am very sensative and have to be super careful about things like
soap, body washes, shampoos & hair conditioners. I'm not sure if it's the
oils, preservatives or the fragrances that get used in products that makes
me react.

Brambleberry does have extremely nice scents in their oils. Actually now
that I think about it I should try using the plain soap I have left over and
see how I do without color or scent added to it.

Lucky you, Marianne! I love the color work patterns from that part of the
world. I am not totally sure of the difference between Icelandic sweaters
and the norwegian ski type sweaters. The yarn company for Drops yarn has a
lot of free patterns and people tell me they have some really good patterns
available. Their web site, however, is not very accessible because the
links to their patterns don't tell you what the link is bringing you to. So
it's very tedious trying to find a pattern on their web site. Then too, I'm
guessing that on the color work patterns they are of course charted, Drats.

Enjoy your new knits.

Eileen

I got the Knit Picks wooden interchangeable circular needle set, which I am
loving. I also got 2 sets of the crochet hooks with the hooks at each end,
4 U-shaped cable needles, 4 other type of cable needles, and 4 packages of
stitch markers that are sort of like safety pins. My family did not
understand that I only wanted 1 of each of the accessories. The funny thing
is that I've asked for craft related items in the past and have not gotten
them, but they made up for it this year.

Happy New Year everyone!!!

Thought we would start the new year off with a new series of "Friday's
Question".
For this week, I was thinking of what crafty items did you receive over the
holidays?
What crafty items do you want to re-gift? (Maybe we can trade).

If you drink tonight, make sure you drink so much that you can't find your
car!

God Bless and Happy New Year!

Diane

The Ice Land sweaters may be the same. Ice Land wool is different from any
other wool. The island is isolated and very cold so the sheep produce a
unique wool that is especially warm. It is very cold here now so I will
appreciate the warmth of the sweater in the future.

I did a little research on the web. Ice Land wool is called alafoss. Most traditional Ice Land sweaters are tight fitting and either zip or button down. To purchase a sweater that has been hand knit is approximately $200.00 and to purchase a kit to knit one is approximately$65.00. The colors available seem to be pretty subdued; grays, heathers, navy, black and white.

That is about all I know about the Ice Land sweaters.

I appreciate your enthusiasm about beading. . Personally terry, I learned a
lot from surfing the internet. You ask a bunch of questions, and I don't
mind talking a bit about those things. However, in the meantime, check out
www.firemountaingems.com or www.beadtingtimes.comm or www.rings-things.com
There are some very good resources on all the sites with regard to
identifying kinds of beads, types ofjeelry and so on.

Eilene:

Sometimes it's not just the cent in soaps that may cause reactions. It's
some of the chemicals in the melt and pour soap mixes that can
causedifficulties. .

We didn't watch it as a show, I had given it to my husband on dvd for
Christmas. This is the second one I've seen. It was about 1-1/2 to 2 hours
long.

My friend who told me about them uses them for picking up dropped stitches
in knitting. Because there is a hook at both ends, you can slide the hook
back and forth through the piece of work where you are picking up the stitch
with out having to remove the hook and grab the stitch from the other
direction. As best as I can tell for crocheting, it reduces the number of
hooks you have. The set of 4 hooks have a total of 8 hook sizes.

The set also included 2 yarn needles for weaving in ends or other yarn
sewing like tasks.

Annette

Hi Annette:

Are these crochet hooks interchangeable? I recently bought a set of the
Denise interchangeable crochet hooks because when I knit, I like to use a
crochet hook for picking up stitches when I'm told to "pick up and knit."
However, just using a standard hook I find cumbersome. With the denise set
I can continually work the P.U.'s & knits and don't have to keep
transferring the sts to a knitting needle. I love, love, love my harmony
wood needles, and if the hook set is interchangeable, I just might have to
get a set! <LOL>

Eileen

Jeff Dunham will send you into rolling fits with his puppet character, Acmid
the terrorist, "Silence!" "I kill you!" The puppet's eyes just about pop out
when he says "silence!" Or Peanut the purple crazy hyperactive puppet.

The Comedy Channel has them at least once a month on the weekends. Fluffy is
amazing how he does his voices. Sorry I can't think of his name. If you
Google Gabe fluffy, it will go right to his web site. I love to laugh. You
should see the Oopse I made the other day while knitting. Hey I break myself
up laughing while I knit. I can be so concentrated, then wham I have
something very bizarre coming off my needles.

Becky and her fabulously self guided needles.
