I'm "FULLASHEEP" on ravelry.  Once you sign in, click on your note book. 
Under there, you will find links to things like patterns, people/friends,
groups.  Once you go andclick on one of the subsequent links there should be
a search/edit box on those pages.  So if you've clicked on the "pattern" 
lnk, then go to the edit box on that page and type in something like shawls.

It might take a while for the search to run because the site is huge, but
eventually it will show you a listing with links to info about patterns for
that category.
