[Nfb-krafters-korner] help with beginning Krochet

are you talking about crocheting or knitting? I assume crocheting -- so I do
have a little maneuver that helps me get the yarn pulled through without the
hook getting caught.
First of all, is that the correct interpretation of your problem? I assume
you just put the hook through the stitch on the previous row and then
grabbed the yarnwith the hook, and now you want to pull that yarn back
through the old stitch -- right?
If so, then try rotating the hook a little so the hook is curving down and
the yarn is wrapped around it. Then pull the hook back out the front,
keeping the hook part down so it doesn't catch the stitch you are going
through.

I don't know if I'm making sense or not, but I remember having my hook get
caught when I first learned to crochet and this twisting the hook down is
the only thing that solved it for me.

You know it's hard to explain something you do naturally -- I don't even
think any more about catching the stitch when I'm crocheting as i have that
way of avoiding it. Another thing that makes it hard for me to describe
crocheting to someone else is that I crochet either righthanded or
lefthanded, but prefer lefthanded crocheting -- and that pretty much flips
everything around in a mirror image.
I have brittle bones and have broken my right arm so many times that I have
taught myself to do many things lefthanded. My right hand is not as strong
as my left, for one thing.

Anyway, gotta go -- happy krafting.

Subject: [Nfb-krafters-korner] help with beginning Krochet

Hi, everyone,

My name is Angela Frederick; I have been a member of the NFB for years, but
just heard about your division today. I am hoping that someone on the list
might be able to help me. I have always wanted to learn how to crochet and
knit and finally signed up for a crochet class, which starts tomorrow.

My friend tried to show me a beginning stitch just to get a head start. I'm
having trouble, though, getting the hook under the loop to make my stitch.
It just slides right into the hook with the front yarn. I am wondering if
there is a trick for this.

I would appreciate any advice you have to offer.

Thanks so much.

Angela
