Yes the wood was flat but we put masking tape around the edge to build a bumper so the wax would not run off.  The colored wax dried right away within seconds and it just depended on how you applied it.  Everyone's project looked different.  Droplets of wax, or thick in one area, thin in another etc.

If you paint on wood, is the wood carved or just flat and you do  the  
painting on it?
