My fingers are tough from playing the guitar, pricking my fingers with a craft needle, but they still are sensitive and can read braille.

I hope it will help. I use only my fingers, but the pointer on my right hand has the toughest skin on it from knitting. The rest of my fingers are soft to the touch and I do not use my pointer fingers for testing at all.
