Subject: [Nfb-krafters-korner] Intarsia - Color Block Knitting

Hi everyone,

Well, the time is growing closer to our Intarsia class for intermediate
knitters. I am excited about sharing this technique with you. Intarsia
also called picture block knitting is a technique for introducing designs
into your knitting. Unlike stranded, or Fair Isle knitting, you do not
carry your unused yarn across the back of your work. Intarsia uses bobbins
for each of your color changes. However, and there have been questions
regarding this, strictly speaking, you do not have to use bobbins. This is
up to the individual knitter.

You can just cut lengths of yarn and let them hang down, altogether; then
pick the next yarn as you come to it. You can purchase bobbins or make
bobbins from card stock, cardboard, or a business card will work. You can
wrap the yarn around your fingers, like you wind a ball and then tie the end
around the middle and create a pull -out skein. You can wind the yarn into
a ball and put it into a baggie. So, no special equipment is required.

As for the DPNs, if you do not have DPNs, you can use a straight needle.
You would just replace the stitches you just knitted back onto the left
needle and knit the stitches again.

I know you are going to love this little bag and make many of them for the
holidays

I have attached two photos of a couple of bags I have knit in the past. I
hope that you will be able to see them and that they will wet your interest!
