When you have him help cook the hot dogs, put a toothpick
through the hot dog. From one side to the other, so each end of the
toothpick hangs out on each side of the hot dog. Then when flipping the
dog the toothpick gives an orientation to which side has been cooked and
which side needs to be cooked. It also gives a handle with which to flip
the dog.

Oh, or a crafty dog...

Using a hot dog, a slice of American cheese and a Pillsbury Crescent roll,
the kind from the refrigerator section, in a can.

He can help open the can, unroll the crescent rolls, feel the perforations
between the rolls and where to separate them.

Then make a cut the length of the hot dog, not quite going all the way
through to the bottom or each end. Fold the piece of cheese in half and
then in half again the long way making 4 long strips. Place 2 strips into
the slice in the hot dog. Then Using the crescent roll, starting at the
wide end of the bottom of the triangle, and working towards the point of the
triangle roll up the hot dog, making sure to cover the cheese. It doesn't
have to be pretty, he can have fun with the rolling up and shaping the dough
to make sure the cheese groove is covered. Place on a baking sheet and bake
for 15 to20 minutes at 400 degrees until golden brown.

If you only want to do a couple dogs, then he can make fun shaped biscuits
with the remaining crescent rolls.
Enjoy!
