Yes, once I started using circular needles, I have not gone back to straight
needles.  Once I learned to use the "magic Loop" technique (thank you
Eileen), I rarely use double pointed needles.

One word of caution, once you start using circular needles (for both
circular and straight projects) you may become hooked. I don't think I have
used straight needles since my first project.

And just to expand on Joyce's description of holding a lot of stitches. When
you use the circular needles, the tip end (non-cable part) is always about
four or five inches. What this means is that each hand is only bearing the
weight of about ten to twenty stitches at a time. As you work, the stitches
slide off the tip end and onto the cable. The weight is only dependent on
how high above your lap that you hold the needles.

Like Joyce, I am also working on an afghan. I just started the Knit
Pineapple Afghan that I sent to the list. Personally, I can't imagine ever
working with straight needles long enough to hold this many stitches.
