Denise interchangeable  needles you do not have to worry about them  coming 
apart.  They lock into place.  They are going for $49.99 , but  if you go 
to their website they have sets of them for $39.99.  They are  marked down 
because of something like a minor flaw on the case or something like  that.  
You get size 5 to size 15 needles with an array of different size  cables 
that attach the needles.  The lengths will give you something like  size 16 
circular needles going up to with combining the cables to something like  40 
inches.  They give you these things that allow you to attach the  different 
lengths of cables together to give you these array of size  lengths.  Also you 
get these kinda locking knobs so you can use the  cables as stitch holders 
or put them on the end of the cable with the needle  pointt on the other 
ends and you can make up a pair of straight needles.
 
The wooden set from Knit Piks I am not sure what other length of cables  
they have, but it starts off with what will give you a 24 inch circular  
needle.  That does not help if you need a 16 inch circ.
