Pottery is a very tactual project. It involves a lot of touch to know the
clay you are working with. Do you plan to use a potters wheel? When I was
in 8th grade I took a class where we made a project out of clay and a woman
who had an oven fired our project. I tried to make an ashtray but I had
problems. I think if you can have different samples the students could feel
it would be helpful for giving ideas. The earlier in life a person looses
vision the more challenges in conceptualizing how something should look. If
possible, I would work with high school students first.
I am a teacher of students who are visually impaired and I would be glad to
share some thoughts and observations with you. We can do this offline if
you prefer this.
