Cindy;
A stitch marker is on the needle in between 2 stitches.  To help with the slippers, you could put one between stitch 8 and stitch 9;
Do your perl,
Do your 8 knit put on a marker perl 1 then knit 8

Here your markers are just befor each perl stitch between 8 and 9
And between 17 and your perl of stitch 18
Then you have 19-26 to knit

Markers
You can use rubber bands, circular stitch markers or safty pin markers, both from the store.
The ones from the store come in different sizes, depending on the size of needle you are using.

When casting off, you can just slide the marker off the needle, or when ever you want, if you do not need it any more. It is not restricted by the knitting.
Hope this helps. This is a new ball game for me, too, but I love it, now!

Terry P.

Joyce,
As I was knitting on my pair of slippers last night I got to thinking that it would be nice to have some type of marker or something to know when to do the P1 stitches so I didn't have to keep counting. I do not know enough about knitting to know how this works. Is there something I could/should be using and if so can you describe it to me? Also, how does the marker come off so it does not stay on the project in the end?

Thanks,
Cindy
