[Nfb-krafters-korner] First for Spinning?

Thanks Eileen,

Actually, I got another first today in the spinning competition.

The competition today was for the longest thread spun in a 10 minute time
span. We are given a bump of wool roving, something different each time.
Last year it was Mohair. This year it was just a non-descript white wool.
The other women thought it may have been scrap wool the processor had just
taken off the end of a batch from the carder. So, anyway we were told we
had 10 minutes to spin. We all spun as much as we could during that time
period. We then took the wool off the spool and wound it onto the knitty
knotty. The person who has the most wraps wins the competition. I had 25
wraps, my friend Anne came in second with 20, and the others had 14 and 16
wraps each. So, I won for the longest thread. The prize for that was a
nice fleece blanket with an embroidered emblem of the fair and a handle
belt like thing to carry it.

As for my skein of yarn in the submitted entries. It is a very dark brown,
nearly black Romney wool, single ply thin to medium strand. I have been
spinning this one fleece to make a sweater, and my girl friend Anne picked
out what she thought looked like the nicest of the 4 skeins. It must
have been alright, because I got 1st and she got a 2nd. Oh, and she is the
woman who taught me to spin! The fleece is also from one of her sheep. She
won best in show for it as a fleece two years ago. I keep referring to it
as the Championship fleece!

Dixie:

Congratulations on your spinning 1st place. Tell us a little more about
what kind of fibers you spun and colors. That's great.

Eileen
