[Nfb-krafters-korner] stick weaving

Yes, Carol dos have a wonderful Husband. She is pretty wonderful too.

But my reason for writing is that I took three or four of her straws and
made the Grand Kids bookmarks. It was treat after the reading contracts for
the summer. The straws work great for one or two bookmarks. I also made
some from my husbands oxygen hoses and they last a lot longer. The yarn
doesn't slide quite as well but they work. So look around the house, you
know, like the settlers did when they discovered this way of making cloth
and have fun.

Theresa, My husband has made me a few sets and I agree with Susan that a
quarter inch is a good size but I also have a set that is much thicker that
I just made a rag rug on. I think mine are about nine inches long beccause
Ed made four from one dowell. We rubbed wax on mine to make them smoother.

This weekend there is a American Herritage Festival near my home. Ed and I
are going to partisipate. On Friday there will be several groups of school
children going through. I am teacching stick weaving to them. We are using
drrinking straws for the sticks. We have punched holes in and threaded yarn
through about three hundred straws so far. We have about two hundred more
to do. I am going to have them make a bookmark using three straws, and they
hope to have 150 kids. This is a great way to use all those little bits of
yarn I have.

I have a great husband.

Carol
