[Nfb-krafters-korner] Alpaca Yarn

Hi Denise,
I've been to an alpaca farm personally. THe animals are not hurt
during the shearing process. You can equate it to getting a long over
due hair cut.
When the alpaca, sheep etc. is ready for shearing the simply sheer
away the fleece. Unless the scissors slip or there is an unforseen
accident the animals leave the process unharmed.
I'm a spinner and knitter who also is seriously changing my lifestyle
over to a vegetarian diet. I've begun to only buy yarns that are free
trade or in which the fibers are harvested in a sustainable way.
If you are coming to convention I can bring some unspun alpaca roving
and let you play around with it.
