Hello Denice, Nice to meet you! Well, your questions ARE directly related to
craft in many ways. But for me, craft is really art because of what I do
with the conceptes and techniques of it.
My husband is my helper when I need a pair of eyes to look at a color and
describe it to me, tell me what size my knitting needles are when I want it
done quickly, has installed over 200 art exhibitions for me well over 30
years, and everything else I need done - he is my partner in crime, I always
say. We have always worked as a team from the beginning. We have exhibited
together in only two shows though.
He is a sculptor - works with steel! We are into fine arts, and I consider
my knitted items as wearable art. I am into "Adornment" and create knitted
accessories and clothing, encrusted bead work, and pottery.
Right now, I am creating the work that will be in my one person show at a
museum in Sept. It will be pottery and encrusted beadwork - and the theme is
"Primal Garden" for the show. My pottery is not functional nor production
type of work. It is sculpture. I have been working for nearly four years on
the pieces for this upcoming show, and still have a lot to get done yet in
the next four months. All the work is based on images from my woods and yarn
and Zen Meditation Garden outside my house - one of my husband's projects
last year that is absolutely amazing.
I lost my sight just 3 years ago, and it has been an enormous struggle for
me to keep working but little by little I have done it but still have many
frustrations and struggles just to get simple things accomplished. But, I am
very stubborn and I never quit anything, so I am doing it again. This list
has been so helpful to me, taught me so many things I needed to know, and
still teaches me things all the time. Most of all, I have been inspired by
the folks here knowing if they can do it, then I can to, in time.
